ASC provides HIV prevention outreach through a variety of activities. Educating our community on how HIV can be prevented is a priority for AIDS Services Coalition. We also provide the community with the resources necessary to protect themselves from HIV infection.  We believe that HIV prevention outreach is key in putting a stop to HIV in our community.

Educational Forums

ASC provides educational forums for groups of 10 to 200 people, including diverse populations ranging from the homeless to college students.  These forums focus on HIV prevention methods including abstinence, condom use, alternative sex methods, reducing alcohol and drug use, universal precautions, and needle decontamination.  Forums range from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the needs of the organization hosting the event.

Health Fairs

ASC participates in community health fairs in focus areas.  A health fair is defined as any event consisting of awareness activities for more than one health condition.  By participating in health fairs, AIDS Services Coalition is able to offer education and testing in an environment that people feel safe attending.  Through cooperation with partners like Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative and the Mississippi State Department of Health, AIDS Services Coalition is able to connect clients to the services they need quickly and efficiently.

Community Involvement Events

ASC provides and participates in community involvement events such as its annual Block Party for Life and Walk for Life, which are open and free to the public.  By hosting and participating in community events, AIDS Services Coalition is able to increase the awareness of HIV and to educate the public on how to prevent the spread of HIV.

Condom Distribution

ASC distributes condoms during any event at which it is present, except where prohibited.  ASC also distributes condoms to local clubs and bars.  AIDS Services Coalition distributes only latex or polyurethane condoms. In addition to events and the ASC Outreach Center, free condoms can be obtained through the following community partners:
